Seven Deacons Ordained in Carlow Cathedral

Rev. David and Mrs Maria O'FlahertySeven Permanent Deacons have been ordained in the Cathedral for service in the diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. The historic ceremony took place on Sunday 13th October 2013. Among the Deacons ordained was David O’Flaherty from our Cathedral Parish. Congratulations to David on this historic occasion and every good wish to his wife Maria and children. We wish David every blessing in the Diaconate Ministry.

In the Roman Catholic Church there are three ministries of clergy; Bishop (Episcopate), Priest (Presbyterate) and Deacon (Diaconate). Most of us are familiar with a Bishop or Priest, however many are not familiar with the ministry of Deacon. There are two types …

Bishop Denis NultyCongratulations to Bishop Denis Nulty who was ordained our new Bishop on Sunday 4th August. A beautiful joyful ceremony was attended by Bishop Denis’ family and friends from his home diocese of Meath. Also in attendance were representative parishioners from every parish in Kildare and Leighlin Diocese who brought the prayers and welcome of their own parishes.

Sincere thanks to all who helped in any way to prepare for the Episcopal Ordination day. Every effort made contributed greatly to the prayerful ceremony and beautiful occasion that it was. With Bishop Denis may each of us continue to serve the Lord with gladness.

We wish Bishop Denis every blessing and happiness in his new home here in Carlow and in his new ministry as Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin.
